ZR1 vs Z06 @ Nurburgring 2012

I ran across these two movies on YouTube and thought it would be neat to see a side-by-side comparison. So, I merged the two movies into one and synchronized their times. Same track, Nurburgring Nordschleife (Germany), same tires, and the same driver, Jim Mero. This is a 16.2-mile track with 90 turns and 984 feet of elevation change.
The sound is from the Z06 sound track. Note that the camera in the ZR1 is wider angle. Other than camera settings being different, this is a good visual comparison. I was really surprised at how close the two are to each other in performance. It would definitely be a drivers’ race. Even though the ZR1 beats the Z06 by 3.05 seconds, most of that gain was the long straight-a-way (at Dottinger Hohe - at about the 12 mile marker) where the ZR1 maxed out at 183 mph versus the Z06's 171 mph. Take that straight-a-way out of the equation and it would have been a little over a second difference. I'm not sure that the ZR1 would be the quicker car on a short track.
The “G” gauges with the circle and cross-hairs, notice how close they are between the two cars. By looking at the action and movement of the gauges you can tell which Vette is ahead of the other on the course. The ZR1 and Z06 are in a dead heat for the first mile or so, then the first straight-a-way showed up and it's all ZR1 from there on (but still close).
